Being a Dad requires a lot of classic type behavior. That's why even hipsters flock to the Don Draper style of old school cool. In that spirit, I submit to you albums Don Draper would get down to for Father's Day.
When the Chairman of the Board names an album Nothing But The Best he means it. When he was 50, he walked from his label, formed Reprise Records and set about proving he still had it. Here's Frank backing up the swagger with hits like Come Fly With Me, Luck Be a Lady, and My Way.
You can't play Frank without throwing in at least one Rat Pack buddy. Nothing makes the vino flow like a little classic Dino. Dean Martin Live From Las Vegas is perfect, a Vegas club, great hits, a few rounds of highballs, can't beat that. With great cuts like That's Amore, Volare and Everybody Loves Somebody thrown in it's the perfect Ice Breaker.
Look, if we are going to go with a theme celebrating authentic American style we have to include a little jazz. Let's face it, and awful lot of modern Jazz sounds suspiciously like Yanni or Kenny G, and that can go down all wrong. That's why I recommend Stan Kenton's Cuban fire. It works for basically everyone. Purists will love it because it's an important album by a jazz giant in the prime of his career. Cuban Fire is an up beat, bold Latin Jazz album full of big horns, hot percussion (your girl can bounce to it) and good songs with timeless melodies.
Well there you have it: Three American classics that make a perfect Father's Day gift, or will make for a great soundtrack for your Father's Day BBQ.
